What makes you Special

1,823

Character are the features used to separate you from others, whether good or bad. They are who you are and how people see you. Like the special things about you that you show others and the different things about you, that makes you who you are. If I am nice to my friends at school, they see me as nice and I will have more friends. If I am mean, they will see me as mean and I will have no friends.

Character

Character: The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual’s personality, nature, disposition, temperament, mentality and make up. Who you really are and your true nature will always surface eventually. You can pretend to be someone for a short while but eventually you true character will come out. We all have features that distinguish us from another person. Our mannerisms, the way we talk, the way we walk, how you treat others and what you say, all define our character and embody who you are and what you represent.

Your True Character Cannot be Hidden

Someone’s character defines who that person really is and it cannot be hidden. Many people try to change their character when they arrive in a new environment to make a good impression (which is not totally bad). However, the fact that they’re trying to change their character in different environments all the time, can unfortunately turn to a disadvantage. For example: If you go for a job interview in an office that requires management skills and you are not an organized person, no matter how many times you try to make a good impression, sooner or later your colleagues and eventually your boss will find out that you are not a very organized person. As my parents always say, a person’s character is like a pregnancy. That is to say, when you are pregnant, even if you have not said anything, ultimately your belly will show and everyone will know. With your character, it’s the same principle, no matter how you try to hide your character, sooner or later, your true nature will show up. There is a proverb of Félicité de Genlis that says, “our happiness depends on our character.” It is good to want to make a good impression, but do not forget the truth (your true personality) will be quickly revealed.

Lastly, having a good character does not mean being beautiful, tall or smart, but it does means walking with righteousness. Listen to everything you are told, no matter if they are from adults or children, no matter how old we are, it is important to listen.

Some examples are: do not shout when speaking to someone, do not speak at the same time as an adult, think before speaking, etc. I encourage everyone to follow the advice of seniors and keep in mind the proverb quoted above (our happiness depends on our character). Thank you and I hope that from now on, you will try to improve your character for a better future and for more happiness.

Importance of Good Character

Who you are and how you treat people show the real you. Some people are nice, kind and gentle, while others are mean, loud and rude. What you show people is how they will see your character. People will judge you based on how you look and what you do or say. How others see you is important. It determines if they will trust you or not and that is why is it important to be nice.

Poem on Character

If you are nice and polite
People will treat you right
If you are mean and rude
You will have no friends at school
Show that you’re cool
Do not act like a fool
If you don’t fight and pout
The special you will come out

Sokoni Market

Usually people are wary of new businesses. They tend to be unsure of the products or complain about the prices, especially when the business is owned by someone they know.
Consumers come up with negative ideas like, “I’m not sure this is going to work”, “I’ll give it 6 months” or “they’re a bit expensive”. By saying these things about new businesses, it can cause them to become unsuccessful and not last as long as they might have.
Why are we so quick to support people we don’t know personally like celebrities? For example, “Fenty Beauty” by Rihanna- a person who already has plenty of money and whom we are willing to pay a lot of money for her products. But we find a million reasons not to support a small local business that actually needs the money to be able to support their family and pay their bills.

The Sokoni Market event is about networking and supporting upcoming and present entrepreneurs, so they can become more successful and make a difference in our community. The market gives small businesses exposure and increases their sales, so they can be out there in the community. We all need to start supporting our own community in order for our economy to grow.

Neveen Dominic is a South Sudanese women who wrote the book “Beauty From the Ashes of War”. This book is about her journey as a refugee from South Sudan. It talks about the struggles she went through and how her and her family have overcome them. Neveen is an award winning Philanthropist and because of God, she was able to overcome and push through every obstacle that she came across. It also talks about her country, what her interests are, what it was like being a refugee, her make-up line, and her experience coming to North America. There are even some recipes from South Sudan.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sales of her books go towards the refugees in Egypt and the other fifty percent goes towards the Beauty Response to Cancer Society, so please support our local businesses and entrepreneurs!

Distinguishable
Do not fall between the cracks of monotony

Be colourful
An interesting expression that is all yourself

Look like you
Talk like you
Dress like you
Celebrate the exquisite talents gifted to you

Be your beautiful self
Sing your beautiful song Dance your beautiful dance
And never be afraid to be you
You are the best you that has
ever lived
Live your best life

Touch the glorious curves and straights of your face
with feeling fingers that belong to you and no one else

Look deep into your unique eye’s
And see your unique face

Read the stories written on every inch of your skin
Don’t skip past the rough patches
Love them

Loving your most difficult memories will only strengthen your self-love
Be a resilient lover of self and love yourself completely

Never stop building your pyramids
Grow every part of yourself

Know yourself so well that nobody can tell you anything about yourself
But be kind and courteous to those who take the time to care

Never miss a learning opportunity

Be humble
Be patient
Be kind

Be gracious for all that you’ve received
Even when we’ve taken nothing we’ve received something
Learn what that something is

Stand tall in this world
Be the best representation of yourself

This is your only job
You are you, not matter what you do or where you go
You were brought into this world as you, and you will leave as you

So, it is important that you
Be unique
Distinguishable
Yourself

Do not fall between the cracks of monotony
Because the world wants to love the incredible being
That is entirely you.

Character and the Law

The Omoluabi principle of Iwa means Character. Character is the essential moral and ethical traits of which an individual consists. The degree of a person’s character is not always initially evident. In situations of conflict and adversity, however, character is revealed.

Our legal system is one where character is essential. Being an adversarial system, very little compares to the opposition and the antagonism that an advocate confronts on a regular basis. Such an advocate is faced with opposition from witnesses from the other side, another lawyer that is trying to thwart his/her success, as well as a judge that may sometimes be in total disagreement with the advocate’s case.

A lawyer regularly faces verbal attacks, sometimes personal ones, from different actors within the court room. Despite this, an advocate is called upon to maintain character that displays: dignity, focus, and self-control.
Further to that point, great cases are often decided based on the character of the parties involved. The justice system is primarily one of fact finding. While this is not a hard science, much is made of the participant’s dispositions to tell the truth. Honesty is a classic and universally praised character trait. Witnesses that display this trait are often more likely to be believed that those who do not.

In helping courts determine character, where permissible by law, courts will allow certain types of witnesses to be questioned as to their character. A witness’s propensity to lie, to be violent or irrational are parts of their character that evidence may be called on to establish.

Just like in the courtroom, character is also used to establish the truth about who an individual is on a day to day basis. As a person is tested and tried, the nature of their character will be revealed. It is for that reason that it is important that we all strive to cultivate great Omoluabi character traits.

Question 1: What advice do you have for students struggling in school?

Answer: It really depends on what they are struggling with. If it is concentration or issues with another student, they need to open up and talk about it. If it is studies, they should seek the help of their academic advisors and find a tutor that can help.

Question 2: If you could have chosen a different subject to study in school, what would it be?

Answer: I would have chosen to study theology, it’s my passion. I enjoy helping and counseling others and I feel it would have helped me be an even better pastor today.
