The Elements of Bravery

2,596

Bravery is defined as “a quality of being courageous.” Thus, to be brave means to be bold, valiant and to some extent heroic. Someone who demonstrates the qualities of bravery is a person who is sincere, loyal and mostly does things that stand out to confront challenges or difficulties. Furthermore, being courageous doesn`t mean lack of fear, on the contrary, it means that you recognize this fear, accept it but decide to overcome your challenges or difficulties to move on.

Bravery is directly related to self confidence (mental or physical) that allow you to make decisions to succeed in very difficult or uncomfortable situations. Therefore, when we find ourselves in a new environment at work, school or other places where we need to meet new people, being courageous becomes a salient element to exploit in order to survive.

However, bravery is also knowing what risk is in front of us and how to handle it. Consequently, it wouldn`t be logical to just jump into risk, then finding ourselves in situations which would have undesirable results. Honesty and loyalty are very important elements in demonstrating bravery. Nevertheless, bravery also means being capable of listening to other people`s opinions, having the courage to change our opinion and accept that we are wrong when it is the case, showing a willingness to be corrected without feeling degraded. Once more, it is very important to know our limits, to be able to honestly say “ I don`t know” when it becomes necessary and then let others teach us. Indeed, that reveals a great amount of honesty and lifts us up high in front of everybody, thus showing our humility. Finally, bravery is a quality that incarnates a lot of values in a person through their actions, their courage, their thinking and their humility towards others.

Black History: Bravery

Sometimes when we think of history, we tend to look back 100’s of years. Why do we do that? History is defined as the study of the past and the purpose of studying the past is to learn from it, whether it be 5 days or 100 years ago. There are plenty of notable individuals who have accomplished many great things in our recent past.

For example, P. K Subban a 29 year old NHL player who currently plays for the Nashville Predators. Subban’s parents emigrated from the Caribbean and settled in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and it was there that his love of hockey grew and turned him into the athlete we know today. We can look back a few years and recount, P.K. Subban’s time in Montreal, Quebec, as a player for the Montreal Canadiens. He is just as well known for his philanthropic efforts there as he is his exceptional hockey skills. He spearheaded a plan to raise 10 million for the Montreal Children’s Hospital and in addition to his generous monetary contributions, also leads by example by serving as a pioneer to other prospective and current minority athletes.

Two-time Olympic Gold medalist, David Robinson, formerly of the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs, is known for his character both on and off the court. Known throughout the NBA as one of the most caring, kind and good natured players, Robinson character served as a standard for dedication and hard work. Off the court he served his local community and raised millions for Carver Academy, a public charter school, which helps underprivileged kids.

When we people look back at the past, it is not only your accomplishements that people consider, but what type of person you are. Many famous people are revered because of thier talents and skills set but it is usually those who have good character that are remembered in the long run. How do you want to be remebered? Being brave can help you succeed in all aspects of your life. We may not know at the time how influental our decisions will be and what affect they will have on those around us, but acting bravely and standing up for what you believe can help guide us to make the right choices in life.

Question 1: What are some of the biggest challenges you faced as a parent raising your children?

Answer: The biggest challenge I faced as a parent when I was raising my children was to see that they go the way of the Lord and that they follow the Lord. If they are not, I make every effort to bring them back.

Question 2: What’s a difficult experience you have been through that made you stronger as a person?

Answer: A difficult experience is when my children disobey God and try and go their own way. This in turn strengthens my faith because I know that it is only God that can deliver them.

Courage to be Brave

Good morning/afternoon ladies, gentlemen and children. Today we’re going to talk about bravery. Bravery is another word for courage. When you act brave you are courageous. This act shows selflessness. In this article we will be talking about courage, bravery and the act of selflessness.

The first one is courage. Courage is a virtue. It involves mastering your emotions. Courageous people also have fears, but they still try to face their fears with bravery.

This is what courage means to me.” I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. “The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” ~Nelson Mandela

The next one is bravery. Bravery is about the act of standing up to others. Being brave means you can stand up for people when they really need it. “I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death.” ~Leonardo da Vinci

The last one is the act of selflessness. The act of selflessness is the opposite of being selfish. When you act selfless you are able to share with others. That’s what the act of selflessness means to me. “We have observed that, in society and the world in which we live, selfishness has increased more than love for others, and that men of good will must work, each with his own strengths and expertise, to ensure that love for others increases until it is equal and possibly exceeds love for oneself.”~ Pope Francis.

This is what bravery means to me. These attributes all show up in great leaders all around the world like, Nelson Mandela, Helen Keller, Jesus Christ and Moses. Thank you for reading this article.

Bravery in the face of Danger

What is bravery ? First, we define bravery as a quality of courage in front of danger. However, when we talk of bravery, it is not just about being in danger, bravery is further than that. Being brave is when one can withstand and prevent a situation that is out of our daily activities, to do something which wouldn’t have been possible in normal circumstances. Such an impasse could be an everyday situation, for instance, a student afraid of doing their homework or a parent who must save his child from a house in fire. To prevent such a challenge, one should have that inner mind that calls to go ahead. Although becoming brave may seem simple in writing, it`s more complex than we can imagine. When we find ourselves in a difficult situation which makes us uncomfortable, we may sometimes be scared which could stop us from deciding what to do next. This unfitness to react in frightful or intense situations sometimes makes victims feel shameful. That said, fear is a normal thing in all human beings and we shouldn’t be ashamed of it. Fear is a natural reaction when we are confronted by a situation that may put us in physical or mental danger. It is for one of these reasons that someone could avoid going into a building on fire for fear of being burnt or to stand in front of a group for a presentation for fear of being humiliated. Finally, for a person to show bravery in a difficult situation they should be determined to go ahead. If bravery was easy we would all be good people.

An Act of Bravery

Nowadays a lot of superhero movies are starting to become real. All around us, we are starting to see real life versions of Batman, Spiderman, The Hulk and more. We are starting to see people doing dangerous things that puts their lives at risk.

For example, in May this year, a man in France named Mamoudou Gassama, saved the life of a 4-year-old child who was dangling from a fourth floor balcony. He was recognized by French President Emmanuel Macron, received papers to become a citizen and was integrated into the fire fighters’ team.

Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that someone who performs actions that puts his life in danger is necessarily considered an act of bravery or a brave person. In my opinion, someone who has done an act of bravery is firstly, someone who can overcome his fears. One of man’s greatest enemies is fear, because when you are afraid of something, sometimes this thing can eventually happen. That’s what Job said in the Bible, Job 3:25: What I’m afraid of is what happens to me; what I dread is what reaches me. When you succeed in overcoming your fear, it is a very great act of bravery, even if you tell yourself that nobody will know it. Well, let me reassure you that one day everyone will know it and they will congratulate you.

Secondly, someone brave or someone who has done an act of bravery, is a person who is ready to overcome his weaknesses, to work hard and give his best to improve. They are especially a person who accepts reproach and uses them to their advantage.

Finally, a brave person for me, is a person who uses his abilities for the good of his community. For example, I’m good at dancing. I’m part of an African dance group and together we perform at various community events. You can do as I do and use your talents to help others. If you are a talented person with children, you can start baby-sitting or if you are a talented person in a certain subject at school, you can start tutoring others. To use your skills for good is in my opinion, a very remarkable act of bravery.

Being Brave

I think bravery is when we open ourselves up to trying new things. I am brave when I try new foods. I am brave when I try new sports. It doesn’t have to be big things. Doing little things makes you brave. When I listen to my mom and dad instead of doing something else, I am brave. I feel brave when I go to school and I am nice to my friends. When I study for a test and do well, my teacher is happy. Bravery is when you are kind to others and try new things.

Risky Business

Being brave is taking risks and challenging yourself to do something that you are afraid of; taking a chance while not knowing what the outcome will be; trying something new despite your fear. You don’t have to be good at it or even be successful, just trying and having confidence in yourself makes you a brave person. Like trying out for basketball, soccer, track and field, badminton, tennis or football team. You may not make the team, but you never stop trying. It’s believing in yourself and working hard to accomplish your dreams.

How to be Brave

Today’s topic is all about bravery. When you think about it, everybody thinks, “Oh, bravery… it means being brave!” Now, if I ask you to describe what traits of character make up a brave person, you would probably look at me and say, “Do I look like a dictionary to you?” Well you won’t be thinking that anymore. ladies and gentlemen, let me just start off by saying that anyone can be brave in their own special way.

Do you think that you are the clumsiest person alive and that you can’t be brave? Well honey, get that idea out of your mind just as easily as it entered, because news flash “YES, YOU CAN!” It just takes practice, effort and will. The first step, practice, is usually the hardest. Practice your hardest and be someone who is willing to take good risks. Show that you can’t be shunned by anybody and you can be just as smart and brave as anyone else, then my friend, if I do say so myself, you are on the right track.

Everybody thinks that to be brave you must do extraordinary things, well news flash honey, “NO, YOU DON’T”. All you must do is speak up and show to yourself and others that you won’t be shunned by fear or doubt. It’s just learning to stand out in your own little way. The most important thing is to not give into pressure as it doesn’t always lead to a happy ending. Try to give into the right type of pressure, the kind that will help you advance and become what you want to become. There is no specific procedure to be brave, you just need to be yourself and in your own special way you will become a hero!

Bravery (Akikanju)

When I think about bravery, I don’t think about doing something, I think about doing nothing. In life, it is so easy to react to what others do. Following along with another rather than doing the right thing. It takes a brave person to walk away from a situation. It takes a brave person to do their own thing, the right thing. It is not easy to go against the norm, knowing you might be ridiculed. It takes a brave person to walk away from a fight. It takes a brave person to follow their heart. Doing something that is hard, challenging, and difficult, that is what being brave means to me.
